Finding your team at Sevenoaks FC

There’s a particular pleasure in football at under-9s level. Children are finding their confidence, learning to play together and making friends. A match gives them something to look forward to, something to talk about afterwards and a team to feel part of.
They’re also learning how much they rely on each other. Knowing when to pass, making yourself available and encouraging a teammate are all part of playing well together. There’s plenty of room for individual achievement, but helping someone else have a good game matters too.
It’s an exciting time at Sevenoaks FC. The club has just had a new clubhouse built, and there’s a lot of enthusiasm around it. Alongside the football itself, a clubhouse gives people somewhere to gather, get talking and spend time together.
Behind the teams are the adults who make it possible. Coaches give their time, parents get children to training and volunteers help the club run. There’s a great deal of effort behind an hour of football.
It also becomes part of family life. Training goes into the calendar. Faces become familiar. Conversations carry on from one week to the next. Gradually, a football club becomes somewhere you know people, and somewhere people know you.
Those connections can make a real difference to how a family feels about where they live. Joining a team gives children a chance to make friends beyond school, while parents get to know other families. A regular place in the week becomes a regular place in the community.
Working in estate agency, we hear how much these things matter when people are choosing an area. Activities for their children, friendships and feeling involved locally are often part of what they’re hoping to find. Clubs like Sevenoaks FC help people build that sense of belonging.
There’s a connection in the teamwork too. A home move depends on people with different responsibilities working towards the same outcome. Buyers, sellers, agents and solicitors need to share information and keep things moving. Paying attention to what someone else needs from you can be just as important as completing your own task.
Our own introduction to the club came through Chris at Better Body Group, who suggested we get in touch. The club proposed sponsoring the under-9s, and we’re pleased to be supporting them. The children will have the Powells logo on their shirts, with a banner at the ground too.
We went along to the first adult home game and are looking forward to seeing the younger players in their shirts. There’s plenty for them to enjoy as they learn, make friends and find their feet together.
Come on, Sevenoaks!
